Drew the
SORIS Manager read chemistry at Cambridge, researched in
ceramics for GEC Hirst Research Centre and took a Master's
degree in Solid State Physics from
London

He researched and taught at
Manchester
Business
School
before
joining Glaxo Laboratories Ltd at Greenford.
After production management at
Barnard
Castle
, Mr Drew
moved to the National Economic Development Office. At
NEDO (a tripartite think-tank for industry, Government and
Trades Unions) he worked with sector groups to improve
UK
economic
performance in pumps, valves, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals
to turn ideas into reality.
Outcomes included the creation of SORIS, partial
restoration of effective patent life for pharmaceutical
products, industry research clubs (MICROBATCH, BIOSEP and
CACTUS were forerunners of today’s Faraday Partnerships) and
maker-user forums where customers and suppliers exchanged
views more freely than hitherto.
He was also the NEDO biotechnology expert advising
Chancellors, Ministers, CBI, TUC and consumer bodies.
SORIS
now serves over 50 Member companies, as well as the Department
of Trade & Industry and the BioIndustry Association
